Philippe Girard-Foley

Philippe is recognised as a trusted partner for companies and entrepreneurs from civil law jurisdictions doing business in three countries (Malaysia, Singapore, India) where he has gained experience over decades of practice. He can take them through the complexities of common law as it is applied in those jurisdictions.

Philippe’s education encompasses both civil law (Paris Sorbonne) and common law (PennCarey Law School). He has joined the Paris Bar in 1993 and immediately established his practice in Asia: Hong Kong first and then Malaysia.

He is fully independent, yet connected with a formal and informal network of colleagues from the legal profession in Asia which is real, built on personal contacts over a number of years.

Prior to joining the Bar, Philippe has started his career as in-house lawyer with Procter & Gamble, Ford Motor, IBM and Remy Cointreau. Far from being a desk lawyer, he understands instinctively the client’s needs and what team works means for the success of a project.

Recognized and diversified expertise

Philippe is a member in good standing of the Paris Bar in France. He is also a full Registered Foreign Lawyer with the Singapore International Court.

He handles both transactional and dispute resolution instructions in Malaysia, Singapore and India.

Emerging Expertise: AI and ESG

In addition to those traditional areas of practice, he has developed his expertise in two emerging areas: ESG and the law of Artificial Intelligence, still focusing on those three countries.

International Background and Corporate Experience

Beyond law, Philippe has a life. He is a member of the Royal Lake Club in Kuala Lumpur and visits regularly its associate clubs within Malaysia (Sarawak), as well as in Singapore and in India.

An International and Human Profile

He is also a member of gourmet social clubs (the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and the Musketeers of Armagnac) with branches around the world.
